Thank you for posting this. In the last six months we also have become aware of a gaping hole in services for homeless, esp singles. That had not been a priority in our mission at Shawnee Community Services but it has become a necessity to get involved. Thank you to the groups who are struggling to fill the need but more are needed.

Ernie and Susan – we just got back from San Francisco where the homeless population is jaw dropping. 36 per cent are believed to be suffering from mental illness. Our entire trip I felt called to somehow help. Now seeing your post I know the Holy Spirit is knocking on my door – right here in our community. Please let me know if you have any ideas. I love your daughter’s big heart but I am not at all surprised- she has had the best of role models – her amazing parents.

Thank You Ernie for sharing this story!! It’s sad to think how many homeless there are in our own backyard. I live in Johnson County as well, never seen a homeless person around here, but I know they’re here. I hope someone will start a shelter in our county to help them.
